My students have enjoyed doing their pin-punching work with tree shapes this month. One of my assistants suggested that we put out small stickers for the children to use to "decorate" their pin-punched trees. Great idea!! This has provided even more motivation for some of my little ones who don't usually have the concentration or interest in this work.
This photo shows a traced tree before punching and the little basket with punching pad and pin. Below that is an ornament one of my students made after punching out their tree. You can see they have used little heart stickers to decorate the tree. Then we punched a hole in the top and added some red yarn. Voila!! A new decoration for the family tree. They have been LOVING this work.

Do your students punch out the entire tree by themselves? My daughter is three and was very frustrated because she could not punch enough holes to get a shape out. I have heard of "helping" them finish by cutting it out for them (using a knife or scissors) once they have punched as many holes as they can. But this sounds a little bit like cheating to me. What do you think?
Thanks!
