This variation of Cards and Counters is one I have had since my first round of Montessori teaching about 10 years ago. If I were to make it again, I might make my mittens a little fancier; however, for now I decided to put it out as is.
Here is the work on a tray: 10 felt mittens numbers 1-10 using fabric paint and a silver bowl with 55 plastic snowflakes. These are ones I had from before. They are really small and kind of fragile; if you scrunch them, they bend easily. I think they are sequins. I am going to try using them for now because I really like their translucence........and the way they look on the felt mittens, as if they are freshly caught snowflakes just beginning to melt. I realize, however, that these may not be resilient enough to withstand daily use. If that's the case, I'll probably try to find some "snowflake-like" beads as a substitute.
Don't they look totally beautiful and iridescent?
And see what I mean about how they look on the mittens?
Here is how the work looks when completed. My oldest son set it up for me so I could take a photo.
And a closer-up view.
