Hello! I have lots of new things to share here this week. I've decided not to put so much pressure on myself to post every day, but I'll still be posting here often. This week I have a new art project out that matches the snowy weather we've been having.
Here is how the project is set up on the bottom shelf of my art shelf. From left: 2 white baskets for carrying the project to a table (thus 2 children at a time may do this work); napkin holder with light blue construction paper cut into half sheets; holder with 2 inch strips of white construction paper; basket with 2 pencils; basket with 2 glue bottles; 2 jars of crayons; tray with 2 vinyl gluing mats.
The above 2 photos just show the materials more close-up.
To do this activity, the child takes a white basket and places into it one blue paper, one white paper (NOTE: in the photo there are 2 white papers; I only ended up putting out the wider strips, not the narrow ones), one jar of crayons, one glue bottle, and one pencil (NOTE: pencil not shown in the photo). They lay out their materials as shown in the photo above.
The first step is to tear the white strip down the middle so there are two pieces. One is used as the "snowy ground" and is glued to the blue paper as shown above.
Next the child uses the crayons to draw something "wintry" on their paper. For one of my samples, I drew a snowman as shown above.
Then, the child takes the remaining piece of white paper and tears it into little pieces which will become the "snow" in the finished project. I realized when doing my sample ahead of time that using the extra piece provided plenty of snow so I didn't include the narrow strip as I had originally planned. Just goes to show how important it is to try out the whole project before putting it on the shelf.
In the final step, the child places dots of glue all over the background and sticks their "snow" pieces on top. Above is my finished sample and below are three that some of my students created today. I LOVE how these are turning out. So unique!!

I like this art work...gives each space for creativity at thesame time really helps their fine motor skills.
