This is a variation of the Color Box 2 that I introduced to some of my students this week. This is a nice way to allow two children to work together on an activity. Materials needed are: Color Box 2, a rug, a straw (or coffee stirrer) and a small basket.
To do this activity, have the children get out the Color Box 2 and place one set of tablets vertically on their rug as shown above. The other set is placed randomly on a table (or rug) some distance from this rug. (See photo below.)
One child places the straw next to a color tablet and says, "Get yellow" to the other child. The other child then takes the small basket to the table and brings back the matching tablet. Then the retrieving child gets to select and name the next color. They continue taking turns as described until all pairs are matched. They love this simple activity. You could use it with anything that can be paired.
