I realize that Mother's Day is almost officially over. However, I can't resist posting a few amazing photos I got this afternoon of a caring mother in action. We have been watching this mother robin for several days as she patiently sat on her eggs. Today was the first day I noticed that the eggs had hatched (what perfect timing, huh?) From the window above my kitchen sink, I observed this diligent mother (or, to be fair, maybe it was the father) making multiple trips back and forth to feed her new offspring. Nature is really amazing, isn't it? I hope that as a mom and as a Montessori teacher, I can nurture this realization in the young children in my life, because THEY really get it. Enjoy!
Here is the mother robin on her nest before the eggs hatched. This nest box is attached to the side of our garage and is visible from the front windows of our home. In the 5 years we've lived in our current home, this is the first year a robin has nested there.
