This week (in place of the pumpkin hammering work; our hammer was broken) I have put out a pumpkin for the children to draw on. I was so grateful to see this idea recently on The Moveable Alphabet. I had completely forgotten that this was an activity that I had put out when I taught in a Montessori preschool previously. That's what happens when nearly 10 years go by!! Anyway, below is a photo of how I have this work set up.
To do this activity, the children draw a face on the pumpkin with markers. When they are done, they use the paintbrush (and water) to paint off the face. The last step is to use the cloth to dry the pumpkin so it is ready for the next child. This has been a popular activity in the classroom this week. I also saw a great idea on The Crafty Crow this week...........a chalkboard pumpkin. I am so doing that for the classroom next year. Totally cool! Below are a few photos of my little pumpkin artists.
Not sure how I stumbled here, but I am having a blast perusing your blog. I have a 2.5 yr old boy and am always looking for fun things for us to do that are creative and maybe even educational. I have already gotten a few ideas and can't wait to find more. I love this fish idea. My son loves to paint so I think this will be a hit. Thanks.
