This week I have a new art project set up...........spider web painting with a marble.
Here is the activity set up. The green bowl has white tempera paint and the white soapdish has a plastic spoon and a green marble. The white wire basket has black construction paper cut to fit into the plastic pan. You can't see it, but there is an apron hanging to the left which the children have to put on first.
After the child puts on their apron, the next step is to get a name sticker to stick on the back of the black paper. I printed up a white sticker label with each child's name. There are two reasons I'm doing it this way. First, a pencil doesn't show up on the black paper. Second, the children can each do this project only one time and having a sticker sheet of name labels helps us see who has and hasn't done the activity. No one is MADE to do it, but each child who wants to do it can only do it once because I only had that many spider rings.
The next step is to place the paper sticker-side down in the pan. Then, using the spoon, they place the green marble into the bowl of paint and push it around until it is covered with paint. Then, again with the spoon, they spoon the marble into the pan on top of the black paper. The spoon is placed back in the soapdish. Next, they tilt the pan back and forth so the marble rolls paint across the paper. Then they use the spoon to remove the marble and place it back in the soapdish with the spoon. Finally, they take the paper to the drying rack and hang it up to dry. (Then they take off the apron and hang it up for the next person.)
Here is a photo I snapped of some "webs" drying on our drying rack.
After the "webs" are dry, we tape a spider ring to them and the children take them home.
I've done this before in a round biscuit tin, that works very well too!

Hello :)
Ahhh, I check my rss feeds (and email) when I get up in the morning & was totally inspired to recreate this straight after breakfast! ;)
We didn't have any marbles but a little plastic ball worked just fine & I used a melon scooper for the spoon which my boys loved!
The only thing I added to the tray was silver glitter to be sprinkled liberally over the wet paint while it was still in the container. And I used 'blu-tak' to hold the spiders on.
My boys were so thrilled! Thanks for such a fun morning. The parents at your school must *love* you!

I just had an idea.... tie the spidder to some wool and dangle it off the web picture.

Going by my autism stuff here, but a picture of the kids on the labels would be really easy for the kids to use, as well as their name of course.
What a fun activity. I have had any messy stuff out in a really long time :0(
