Here are some of the things that are new in the classroom this week.
This is a button sorting activity. There are 6 of each shape and color of button so the buttons can either be sorted by the attribute of color (this will be easy for most of the children) or by shape (this is harder, but I am sure most can do it too).
These two photos show the two ways of sorting the buttons.
This is really a fun activity. The photo shows the "completed" work. This is on a table and the children do it standing up with an apron on. The work stays on the table. They use the eye dropped to transfer the colored water into the jack-o-lantern's face, making the features yellow like our "love lights". The plastic jack-o-lantern originally held beads and had a lid.
This is an initial sound picture matching game that I downloaded and printed from Kelly's Kindergarten. Two children may play this game. To play, they each take a gameboard. The acorn cards are placed facedown. The children take turns turning over an acorn card and matching the picture to the picture on their board that begins with the same sound. For example, "sandwich" could be matched with "star". This activity is on the language shelf.
This is a really cute scarecrow activity that I downloaded and printed from Kidssoup. To do this work, the child uses the blank (sticks only) board and the pieces (in the little basket) to make one of the scarecrows on the control cards (which are in the larger basket). They have really enjoyed this work so far.
Inside the little pumpkin basket is a set of jack-o-lantern matching cards. They can be used facedown like a memory game or (as shown in the second photo) the child can simply place them together in matching pairs.
I like the pumpkin matching activity! Where'd you find such cute pumpkin pictures?
