I printed this new math activity from Kidssoup (I have a membership to this website). However, I modified it somewhat to make it work better as an indpendent activity. The downloads print off as two full-size sheets. I printed them, but cut them apart into strips so the polar bear "quantities" would be separate instead of together.
Here is how the activity is set up on my math shelf. A basket for the counting cards and a container with the numbered clothespins.
To present this work, I first have the child lay out the clothespins in sequential order in a vertical row as shown in the photo above.
Here you can see the clothespins a little better. I may actually redo them, however, to make the numerals more readable.
Once the child determines the quantity of bears, s/he finds the correct numbered clothespin and attaches it to the card.
A further extension is to have the child arrange the completed cards in order from smallest to largest quantity or vice versa.
You could cut out fish, glue them on the clothespins and write the numbers on them, so the kids could "feed" the bears the right number of fish

Do you have the cards all the same size or cut to the number of bears?
