New on the art shelf this week is a paper plate snowman project. This little guy is complete with cozy earmuffs to ward off the cold wintry weather we've been having here in the Midwest!
Here is the completed project.
This shows how I have the work set up on the art shelf. The entire bottom shelf of the art shelf is devoted to this activity. The next two photos show the materials close up.
The brown tray holds a gluing mat (vinyl placemat). The baket holds small (cheap) paper plates. Each plate has two holes pre-punched on the sides. (I tried having my 7-year-old punch the holes and it was pretty hard for him. So I decided to pre-punch them for my preschoolers.)
The white bucket holds a variety of pipe-cleaners. I had a hard time finding a container long enough to hold them on the shelf. Finally it dawned on me to use the bucket. The tray holds orange paper triangles (for the carrot noses), black paper circles (punched with scrapbooking paper punch) for the eyes, pom-poms for the earmuffs, glue bottle, and a pencil (for writing name on the back) and red marker (to draw the mouth.)
To do this work, the child first takes a gluing mat, paper plate, and pipe-cleaner to their table. Then they return to the art shelf to carry the whole green tray to their table.
Sorry for the blurry photo (having a love-hate relationship with the camera!)...this shows the tray closer-up. After using the pencil to write their name on the back of the paper plate, the child takes a pipe-cleaner and twists it through each of the holes to form the headpiece of the earmuffs. Next, they glue on the pom-pom earmuffs, eyes, and nose. Then they draw the mouth. DONE!
Cute, I might have to copy this one!
