Well, vacation's over and it's back to work!! I spent about 3 1/2 hours at school yesterday (yes, I put it off until the last day) getting all the Christmas stuff put away and getting out some "wintry" seasonal activities. Below is a glimpse of some of what was new for the students today.
Tongs transfer activity with 2 frosted glass votive holders and blue and white sparkly pom-poms
Tweezer transfer activity with blue beads and a suction pad
It takes lots of concentration and focus to carefully place all 37 beads onto the little suction cups. I took the photo below this morning at the request of an almost 5-year-old boy who asked me to "check" his work. There was lots of natural light streaming through the window to the left when I took this and I love how sparkly the beads look in the sunlight.
Spooning transfer activity with white marbles (or snowballs if you use your imagination!)
Another spoon transfer activity using clear glass marble chips. They look like ice.
Those tongs sound like a good deal. Wedont have a Dollerama here, but we do have Dollar Tree and Dollar General and Isometimes find great things for the classroom there. Thanks for writing!

These are great ideas. The blue beads on the soap dish are so pretty. I am going to look for my soap dishes when I go to school today. I will also be making the mitten number activity - that is a great idea. I have found some very nice small tongs at Dollarama in the kitchen sections. They are metal and some have silcon grip areas. There are a variety of sizes, and some come two to a card for a dollar!

Hi! A great source for tongs that are perfectly child-sized is Montessori Services. They are pretty reasonably priced too. Here is a link:

Hope that helps!

Where do you buy your tongs that are not plastic or wooden? I need some metal tongs for my son who broke the wooden tongs I had him use. I'm not sure where I can buy some that would be size appropriate for a 2 1/2 year old boy :)
