This month we are studying about Vincent Van Gogh. The painting we have learned by Vincent is shown below, "Vase with Twelve Sunflowers." After learning a little bit about Vincent, I set up this art activity for the children so they could draw their own sunflowers. I have read a little bit from the book Sunflowers and Swirly Stars so the children could learn about Vincent. Then, I got two real sunflowers and placed them into a vase with the painting hanging nearby. It has been fun to see the many variations of sunflower drawings that have resulted from this activity. A few are shown below.
I will definitely check out this idea. Thanks so much for sharing it!

I love your little artist nook and the lovely drawings that have been created there! I want a nook just like that!
I made a van Gogh activity this summer, and I thought it might be useful to you. It is an empty version of his bedroom at Arles and cut outs of furniture for the children to arrange. If you use it, would you please let me know if your students enjoy it? I have only tried it out with my daughter so far! Thanks!!!!!

I used this painting for my own "Touch the Art" series of cards for Circle Time but also for mummy and baby class (I work for an International school in Japan). The students loved touching an interactive sunflower (I made it out of construction paper and glued it on - so simple)
I look forward to your posts, you've already inspired me to install an Activity Area in my classroom for 1-2 year olds. Its BRILLIANT. Thank you for making my class better!
